Classes

We offer a wide range of weekly classes. Our classes are all taught by members of our committee and society. Any student of Royal Holloway, University of London can attend the open classes. All we ask is that you purchase a membership for insurance purposes.

Ballet

Teacher: Meghan Moody
Level: Beginner

Ballet is the foundation from which many other styles developed. Classes are highly recommened for any dancer wanting to work on strength, technique, alignment, coordination and building up a solid understanding of dance's core vocabulary. It is a great place for beginners to start.

Tap

Teacher: Izzy Wedgwood
Level: Beginner

Tap dance encorporates sound and rhythm into movement. The style focuses on foot and ankle work. It can be suave, jazzy, percussive or characterful.

If you're the type of person claps or stamps along when your favourite music comes on, get yourself to this class!

Feel free to give it a go in trainers if you haven't got tap shoes!

Jazz

Teacher: Milly Marshall
Level: Open

Jazz is an energetic style of dance which draws on ballet technique. It has developed greatly through the 20th and 21st centuries. Lively jazz routines are often a hit with audiences and dancers alike. If you're a fan of musical theatre routines, jazz is a great class to get involved in.

Hip Hop

Teacher: Jess Darke
Level: Open

Hip Hop is a very modern style which takes its inspiration from street dance, breaking, popping, locking and house. Each dancer is encouraged to bring their own personality to the style. The large size of our hiphop crews is a testament to how popular this style is.

Commercial

Teacher: Jess Darke
Level: Open

Commercial style is most often seen in music videos. Come to commercial to let loose your inner Beyonce!

 Last year saw the introduction of heels routines and workshops in commercial class.

Contemporary

Teacher: Luz Sanchez-Real Zielniewicz
Level: Open

In contemporary, the movements often focus on flow, weight and energy. It fuses jazz and ballet technique to create powerful routines. This style has grown to become incredible popular in the 21st century.

Lyrical

Teacher: Alyssa Maskell
Level: Open

Lyrical dance is highly emotive. The choreography usually echoes the song lyrics. It uses a fusion of jazz and ballet technique, similar to contemporary. Lyrical is a brilliant class to come to if you want to explore dance's power for conveying emotion.

Technique

Teacher: Beth Cummings
Level: Open

Technique is especially recommended for jazz and contemporary dancers. In these classes you will learn and improve upon kicks, leaps, turns and jumps. If you love corner work, want to improve your showoff moves and consolidate good technique to prevent injury, then this class is for you.

Stretch and Tone

Teacher: Isabella Thistlewood
Level: Open

Stretch and tone is a brilliant opportunity for dancers to improve their strength and flexibility. In this super high energy class we blast music and keep each other motivated. The class usually focuses on abs and legs, with options to make exercises easier or harder. It's hard work, but a lot of fun and you'll feel great after!

Dance Fitness

Teacher: Tori Cable
Level: Open

Dance fitness will keep you fit and build stamina in such a fun way that you will forget you are working out. This is a new class for 2021.
